San Antonio-area voters head to polls March 5 to determine Democratic, Republican primary winners

North San Antonio-area voters will go to the polls on March 5 to make their preferences in the Democratic or Republican party primaries in elections affecting several federal, state, and Bexar County positions.

Current Situation

Voters may cast their ballot at any Bexar County vote center between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. on March 5. The winners of each primary race will go on to the November 5 general election, where the presidential race will headline federal, state, and county matches. According to HERE NEWS election officials, 42,907 voters cast a ballot in the local Republican primary, and 31,152 people took part in the Democratic primary during the early voting period. According to state election officials, a candidate in a contested primary must receive more than 50% of the vote to win their race outright. Otherwise, the top two vote-getters who receive less than 50% of the vote in a primary will go to a May 28 runoff election.

Take Action

State elections officials said voters must present one of the seven acceptable forms of photo ID, including a Texas driver’s license, Texas personal identification card, passport, Texas handgun license, military identification card, citizenship certificate, or Texas election identification certificate.
