Welcome Back to Summer: San Antonio’s Warm Weather Hits in October
San Antonio folks, it seems like summer is making a comeback, and it’s just as toasty as we remembered! Today, the temperature is expected to reach a warm 80 degrees right after 11 a.m. But don’t put away those shorts just yet—by the time the clock strikes 3 or 4 p.m., we could be sizzling at a high of 90 to 91 degrees!
Texas Weather Keeps Us Guessing
Just last week, many of us enjoyed a delightful taste of autumn with cooler temperatures sweeping across Texas. Parts of North Texas even saw some areas dip into the 30s, while others experienced lows hanging out in the 40s and 50s. But oh, how quickly things change! That refreshing fall break is officially over as a high-pressure system rolls in, bringing back the summer-like heat we know all too well.
On Tuesday, some places already hit the low 90s, and it looks like Wednesday is going to crank up the heat even more. It’s a bit of a shocker for late October, as this time of year usually gives us highs in the upper 70s to near 80 degrees. Today’s highs are expected to soar up to a jaw-dropping 15 degrees above normal, with several Texas cities likely breaking their daily temperature records. How wild is that?
Morning Calm Before the Heat
We’re getting our day started with some relatively cool temps this morning, with expected lows around 65 to 67 degrees across the San Antonio metro area. However, you might want to keep an eye out for some patchy fog as you head out early. That chance of fog is mostly concentrated in southern Bexar County, stretching down toward the Gulf Coast. So, if visibility drops to less than a quarter mile, do yourself a favor and drive slowly—we want everyone to get where they’re going safely!
Highs Across the Lone Star State
As the sun rises and the clouds begin to clear, we can expect clearer skies by late morning, making way for that warm afternoon sunshine. While San Antonio likely peaks at around 90 to 91 degrees, let’s not forget our friends in Dallas, who might even hit a blistering 92 degrees, potentially breaking their daily record of 90 degrees set way back in 1925. Waco is also warming up, with forecasted highs hitting 91 degrees, surpassing their old record of 89 degrees.
The crown for the hottest weather in Texas today is expected to go to areas just north and west of the DFW Metroplex—think cities like Graham, Mineral Wells, and Wichita Falls, where temperatures could climb into the 93 to 95 degrees range.
What’s Next? More Heat!
If you thought today was warm, you’re in for a surprise. Thursday looks to bring similar weather, with high temperatures hanging around the upper 80s and low 90s for many. San Antonio might see a slight drop to around 89 degrees under partly cloudy skies. However, the cooling relief we’ve all been waiting for is on the horizon, with a cold front expected to sweep through the Texas Panhandle on Friday. Unfortunately, it’s likely to stall out before it reaches us here in South Texas, so we’ll be seeing high temps around 90 degrees through the weekend.
Outlook Ahead
As we gear up to hit the 50-day mark on our current dry streak with no measurable rainfall (which is already the 10th longest in San Antonio history!), it doesn’t look like any rain is in the forecast just yet. The last recorded rain was a mere few drops last Friday, but nothing substantial to ease the drought. The record for the longest rainless streak is 63 days, which we last saw in the summer of 1993. But for now, let’s enjoy the warm, sunny days while we can!
