San Antonio Enjoys Unseasonably Warm February Weather

News Summary

San Antonio is experiencing unusually warm weather as February begins, with temperatures reaching the upper 70s to lower 80s. After a cold January, this dramatic shift allows residents to enjoy outdoor activities. However, a cold front is expected soon, bringing more typical February conditions. Enjoy this balmy spell while it lasts!

San Antonio Basks in Unseasonably Warm Weather as February Kicks Off

Hold onto your hats, San Antonio! As we dive into February, residents of this vibrant city are experiencing something that feels more like a late spring day than the typical late winter chill. The mercury is climbing into the upper 70s to lower 80s during the afternoons, with peak temperatures hitting around 4 p.m. This delightful warm spell is a welcome change after a colder-than-usual January.

Winter Blues Be Gone!

During a typical February, mornings in San Antonio usually start off brisk, with temperatures hovering in the 40s and warming up to the low 60s by afternoon. But this year is different! Expect temperatures to soar this week, registering an impressive 15 to 20 degrees warmer than the seasonal standard. While January brought its share of cold, with freezing days and even dipping to a teeth-chattering 24 degrees, this week’s warmth offers a sudden change in pace.

In fact, San Antonio’s average temperature for January was about 48.5 degrees, which is nearly 4 degrees cooler than the norm. With 10 days of temperatures falling below freezing and the coldest day being January 22, most of us were probably wondering, “Where’s the sunshine?” The warmest day in January peaked at 77 degrees, but that felt like a distant memory just days ago.

A Taste of Spring

This week’s forecast promises fantastic weather for outdoor activities. With mornings bringing cloudy skies and patchy fog before giving way to mostly sunny afternoons, it sounds like the perfect time to pack a picnic or take a stroll around the city. The gentle winds blowing from the Texas Gulf Coast are maintaining these above-normal temperatures, allowing residents to enjoy their coffee outside without bundling up.

As if all this warmth wasn’t enough to enjoy, the advanced technology of meteorology indicates that temperatures could soar even higher, approaching record highs by week’s end. Imagine stepping outside in February and feeling the warmth of the sun on your face while the rest of the country is shoveling snow! Yes, that’s right! While Northern Plains states are battling blizzard conditions, us lucky folks in Texas are soaking up the sun.

Cold Front Coming Soon

cold front is on its way, expected to sweep through by Sunday. With this shift, we’ll soon be back to more typical February conditions, with daytime highs dropping to the upper 60s. Rain may accompany this cold front, offering much-needed moisture as San Antonio recorded less than normal rainfall in January—only 1.14 inches compared to the expected averages.

Additionally, it seems we might have a little more winter to contend with as another cold front could follow close behind, arriving around Valentine’s Day. Just in time for those heart-shaped boxes of chocolates—let’s hope the weather isn’t too chilly for outdoor romantic dates!

Embracing the Unpredictability

San Antonio, enjoy this balmy weather while it lasts—you never know when winter will knock back on our doors. Here’s to a week of warmth and sunshine before we brace ourselves for what’s next!
