San Antonio Faces Warm Week Ahead with Drought Concerns

San Antonio Weather Update: A Warm Week Ahead

Hey there, San Antonio! As we dive into a new week, let’s chat a bit about what Mother Nature has in store for us. Spoiler alert: It looks like we’re heading into a spell of warmer weather!

Cooler Days Are Fading

Starting off Monday, we’re looking at temperatures in the upper 50s to lower 60s, which may feel quite nice compared to what we’ll experience later! It’s going to be one of the cooler days this week, setting the stage for high temperatures that are predicted to reach into the upper 80s to near 90 degrees by the afternoon. So, if you’re planning to head out, dress in layers – you might need that jacket in the morning, but it will be a different story by lunchtime!

Last week, we enjoyed a brief taste of fall when San Antonio’s temperatures dipped into the 70s after a cold front made its way through town. Folks were pulling out their jackets and sipping pumpkin spice lattes in full force. However, that cool weather was short-lived, and we are now returning to more typical warm temperatures for this time of year. Despite the brief cooler stretch, daily highs hit 98 degrees and 95 degrees last Monday and Tuesday, respectively. Crazy, right?

The Drought Dilemma

Now, on to something that’s been on a lot of minds lately – where’s the rain? It has been a dry stretch for San Antonio, with just a tiny trace of rain last Friday, marking only the second time our city saw any downpour since the measly 0.01 inches recorded on September 5. As of now, more than 86% of Texas is experiencing abnormally dry conditions, and it’s a boot-scootin’ drought across the state.

From Bexar County to Uvalde and Bandera, drought conditions range from moderate to severe. In fact, 164 counties across Texas, including our very own Bexar County, are under burn bans! So, if you were thinking about grilling or having a cozy fire pit night, you might want to pause on those plans until we see some moisture.

What Will the Future Hold?

As for the future, the American GFS model suggests we might finally see a few drops of rain as we flip the calendar to November, but until then, it looks like we’ll be stuck in warm and dry weather. August’s heat will linger on! Halloween is on the horizon, and while it’s still more than a week away, early forecasts show temperatures lingering in the middle to upper 80s for our spooky celebrations. A reminder that the record high for Halloween here is 89 degrees, set in 1997. So don’t expect a chilly Halloween like we experienced last year!

Keep Your Fingers Crossed

As we wrap up this weather update, don’t forget that forecasts can change rapidly! If you’re making plans for Halloween festivities, consider writing the day down with a pencil instead of a permanent marker; we all know that a lot can change in a week! So keep those fingers crossed for some much-needed rain soon, and stay cool amid the warmer days. It looks to be a rather sunny week ahead!
