San Antonio Weather: Enjoy the Warmth Before the Upcoming Cold Front and Allergy Season

San Antonio Weather: A Mix of Warm and Mugginess Before the Cold Front Arrives!

Hey, San Antonio! Are you feeling that warm, humid air wrapping around you? You’re not alone! As we venture into mid-December, the weather has been anything but typical. With daytime highs reaching into the mid to upper 70s, it feels more like a spring day than a chilly winter one. Today, you can expect temperatures hitting a delightful 77 degrees. Pretty nice, right?

A Rainy December?

Now, before you start making joyful plans under the sun, let’s talk about the rain. This December, we’ve had eight days with at least a trace of rainfall, but the total accumulation at San Antonio International Airport is just 0.56 inches. Not much to write home about, considering how wet it feels! Still, if you suffer from allergies, the moisture-rich air is likely sending you into a sneezy spiral.

Allergy Alert!

The elevated moisture levels combined with warm winds have created a breeding ground for mold and tree allergens in our area. If you’re finding yourself reaching for those tissues or allergy meds more frequently, you can blame this muggy weather! It’s especially tough for those who have reactions to mountain cedar pollen, which is expected to increase later this week after a cold front sweeps through. Yikes!

What’s On the Horizon?

The forecast shows that we might experience some isolated showers today, but only a 20% chance. Those clouds hanging in the morning will eventually break up, giving way to warm temperatures by the afternoon, reaching up to 80 degrees. So perhaps hold off on the winter coats just a little longer!

But mark your calendars folks, because a strong cold front is headed our way by Wednesday! Expect those breezy north winds and scattered showers to come knocking around midday. You might bask in temperatures around 70 degrees by lunchtime, but don’t get too comfortable because it’s forecasted to drop near 60 by the time the sun sets.

Clearing Skies Ahead!

With the cold front pushing through, we can look forward to some much-needed changes. A system of high atmospheric pressure will follow, bringing us crisp, clear skies and a drop in humidity. Finally, temperatures will start to align more with the seasonal average of 65 degrees high and 42 degrees low. Doesn’t that sound refreshing?

Don’t Forget About Indoor Mold!

While the outdoors may clear up, indoors can still be a concern. Mold spores thrive in moist environments, and those pesky things can grow in your bathroom and kitchen too. Keeping indoor humidity below 45% is your best bet against mold allergies. Remember to ventilate, and you might be able to escape those fundamental allergy woes!

Prepare for Cedar Pollen!

And here’s a friendly reminder: as the cold front sweeps in, prepare for the infamous mountain cedar pollen to spike. Those little grains come from the Ashe juniper trees, known for taking center stage in the Hill Country. It’s a reality for allergy sufferers in Texas — the cedar season lasts through at least February, so stock up on allergy meds now!

Stay Informed!

All in all, stay safe and enjoy the warm weather while it lasts! The change is coming, and soon we can embrace those cooler, crisp days of winter. Whether you’re a fan of the sun or the chill, San Antonio’s weather always keeps you on your toes!
