San Antonio’s Weather: A Wild Ride This Week!

Hey there, San Antonio! Buckle up because this week is going to be a rollercoaster when it comes to temperatures and a little something called fire danger. It’s that time of year where the weather just can’t seem to make up its mind, and we’re in for some unseasonably high temperatures and a chance for elevated fire risk. Ready to dive in? Let’s break it down!

Starting Off Cold!

We’ll kick off Monday morning with temperatures dipping into the upper 30s. Grab that cozy sweater as you head out because it’s definitely going to feel chilly between 5 and 8 a.m. The Hill Country will be even frostier, with lows hovering between 34 and 36 degrees in places like Fredericksburg, Kerrville, and Boerne. However, don’t let those early morning temps fool you! By 9:30 a.m., the sun will start to do its magic, and it won’t be long before we warm up to over 50 degrees!

Come noon, we’re looking at typical San Antonio warmth, with temperatures reaching into the mid- to upper 60s. And if you’re planning some outdoor activities, you’re in luck! The winds will be light at just 5 mph, perfect for a picnic or a stroll in the park. By the afternoon, expect highs in the mid-70s to wrap up your Monday.

What’s Next? A Warm-Up!

Now, moving into Tuesday, you might want to think about trading in that sweater for some lighter layers. Morning lows will be cozy in the 40s, but don’t let those fool you because we’re on track to hit the low 80s by the afternoon. The days ahead are looking to bring some big swings in temperature—thanks to those dry air conditions hanging around South Texas!

On Wednesday, things will heat up even more, pushing temps into the mid- to upper 80s in San Antonio, with gusty winds ranging from 15 to 25 mph making that warmth feel even more intense. However, with these dry conditions and the risk of high winds, we need to take fire safety seriously. A heads-up: fire danger is climbing across the region!

Brace for the Heat!

Thursday and Friday are predicted to be the heatwave’s peak, with temperatures soaring near 90 degrees. Don’t forget to hydrate, and think twice before starting that outdoor firepit! As the forecast shows, a Pacific cold front is set to sweep through late Friday into Saturday, bringing possible relief with a cool-down of 10 to 15 degrees. But wait! More wind and critical fire danger will join that cold front to make the situation dicey.

What About Rain?

Ah, rain! After the dry spell, it seems like we’re all waiting for it. Unfortunately, most of South Texas is marked with drought conditions. Bexar County is experiencing a Level 4 exceptional drought, which is the highest level on the drought scale. As of now, we’ve only seen 1.77 inches of rain for 2024, which is a mere 41% of what we usually get! That means we’re in for plenty of dry days through March 20.

Cooler Days Ahead

Let’s shed some light on the weekend. A cold front’s arrival Saturday may cool us off to the lower 60s by Sunday afternoon. The good news? Once that front passes, we’re looking at a gradual climb back toward the mid-70s and possibly into the 80s to low 90s by next Wednesday. So hang in there; relief is on the way!

Fire Alert!

Just a quick reminder: as the weekend rolls in, a red flag warning has been issued for much of Central and South Texas due to heightened fire danger. So it would be wise to avoid outdoor burning and to be extra cautious. Let’s keep our beautiful San Antonio safe and sound!

Enjoy the mix of winter chill and spring warmth this week, and remember—weather may be unpredictable, but staying informed lets us stay safe and have fun!
