It’s a Monday morning like no other here in San Antonio. As the city bustled with the usual morning vibes, an incident on Bandera Road caught everyone’s attention. A remarkable story unfolded when a 77-year-old woman found herself in a bit of a pickle after her car took a wild turn, resulting in a crash that not only left her vehicle dangling off an embankment but also left several local businesses without power!
At around 9:30 a.m. on November 11, first responders received calls about an older woman trapped in her car at the 6400 block of Bandera Road. The situation sounded serious, prompting the Leon Valley Fire Department to rush to the scene. Once they arrived, they discovered that the elderly driver had accidentally pressed the gas instead of the brake, sending her vehicle soaring from the health clinic’s parking lot over a barrier wall and into the alley of Wing Daddy’s Sauce House.
That’s right! Her car didn’t just bump into something. It made a dramatic nose dive off a steep grade change, crashing right into a utility pole, which had its own wild adventure and fell onto the woman’s SUV! Let’s just say it was quite an unexpected start to the week.
Thankfully, the woman who found herself behind the wheel seems to be in good spirits after the crash. Emergency crews had to carefully extract her from the vehicle, which was precariously perched at a 45-degree angle, practically teetering on the edge. Signs show she was transported to a nearby hospital as a precaution, but initial reports indicate that her injuries might not be severe. That’s a relief!
However, the story doesn’t end there. As the car struck the pole, it caused a major power outage affecting nearly 3,600 residents in the surrounding area! Four local businesses, including the beloved Mom & Son’s Bakery and, of course, Wing Daddy’s, were plunged into darkness. Talk about a chaotic morning.
CPS Energy confirmed that they had to cut power in the vicinity to replace damaged equipment. Luckily, by around 2:45 p.m., electricity was restored to all but eight businesses affected. As they worked to bring back the power, city workers were already on site diligently cleaning up the aftermath of the wild crash.
The owners of Mom & Son’s Bakery shared updates on their social media, expressing their concerns but also their gratitude for the emergency teams that arrived quickly. They remain hopeful that the outage won’t last long, but customers have been reassured that they’ll continue to serve their baked goods once the lights are back on.
This accident raised quite a few eyebrows among local residents, sparking a conversation about driver safety, especially for older adults. Everyone wants a happy ending, and it seems that community members are coming together in support of the business owners affected by the power loss as well as the elderly driver. Let’s spread a wave of positivity!
As the dust settles on the incident, San Antonians can breathe a sigh of relief. The 77-year-old woman is on the road to recovery, and despite the unfortunate power outages, the spirit of the neighborhood shines through as everyone rallies together. If you’re in the area, keep an eye out for updates from your favorite local businesses, and let’s hope they’re back to serving all your favorite goodies in no time!
