San Antonio Police Department Makes 10 Arrests Related to Street Takeovers

Crackdown on Reckless Street Racing

In a significant operation on Saturday night, the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) announced that they arrested a total of 10 individuals involved in organized street takeover events across the West Side and other areas in Bexar County.

Group Disbanded with Cooperation from Various Agencies

The police chief, William McManus, expressed his appreciation for the combined efforts of the SAPD, the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office, and the Department of Public Safety (DPS) in addressing the disruptive trend of street takeovers. In a tweet released on Sunday, he noted the successful efforts saying, “Last night, street takeover groups came to SA and were met by SAPD, DPS, & BCSO.”

Details of the Arrests

The police reported that the operation resulted in minimal disruptions to the community along with several arrests, highlighting a range of misdemeanor and felony charges. Among the incidents, one vehicle attempting to evade law enforcement suffered a tire blowout, leading to four arrests linked to this traffic stop.

Charges Filed

The charges faced by the suspects include:

  • Unauthorized use of a vehicle
  • Evading arrest/detention
  • Public intoxication

Additionally, during a separate street takeover event on the West Side, another traffic stop resulted in the apprehension of a driver who was charged with unlawfully carrying a handgun and narcotics possession.

Vehicles Impounded

In total, the operation led to eight vehicles being impounded, reflecting the seriousness of the police response to the takeover events. Authorities are keen to send a clear message: street takeovers will not be tolerated in San Antonio.

Looking Ahead

As officers continue to clamp down on such reckless activities, community members are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious or unsafe gatherings. The city aims to ensure safety and tranquility for all its residents.
