City of Schertz to Hold Public Hearing for 20-Year Comprehensive Master Plan

City of Schertz to Hold Public Hearing on Comprehensive Master Plan

The City Council of Schertz will be conducting a public hearing regarding their Comprehensive Master Plan. The forward-looking plan aims to guide city development over the next two decades and is expecting the engagement of residents during the discussion. The hearing will take place at the Schertz Council Chambers on March 19, starting from 6 p.m.

The 20-Year Comprehensive Plan

The current plan for city development was initiated back in 2002 with a life span of 15-20 years. To complement this, a Sector Plan was adopted in 2013. As the existing plan is nearing its expiry, the city officials initiated the process for an updated plan in 2023. The new Comprehensive Master Plan has been developed over the last year, thanks to the combined efforts of the city staff, the planning consulting firm Freese and Nichols, and the Comprehensive Plan Advisory Committee.

Plan Structure

According to the City Council agenda, the Comprehensive Master Plan is divided into four distinct chapters. These include the following: a community snapshot provides an overview of the current city status in various aspects. The focus area and engagement chapter deal with vital regions within the city and elaborate strategies of public involvement. The land use and economic strategy highlight the intended land utilization and related economic tactics. Lastly, appendices include additional materials and references that support the plan. A detailed summary of each section will be available in the City Council agenda slated for March 19.

Public Participation

The City of Schertz invites individuals to vocalize their opinions and gain a better understanding of the Comprehensive Master Plan. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. at the City Council Chambers, located at 1400 Schertz Parkway, Bldg. 4, in Schertz. Furthermore, residents can access additional information about previous city plans online. Also, the upcoming ordinance and the presentation details for March 19 have been made readily available online.

About the City Council

The City Council of Schertz is committed to making informed decisions that promote the well-being of their community and foster a sustainable future. The upcoming public hearing is a significant demonstration of their dedication to involve city residents in important decision-making processes. It is vital for the community members to participate and contribute their ideas during the hearing, as the Comprehensive Master Plan will largely influence the direction of city development over the next 20 years.
