Heads Up, San Antonio! Thunderstorms Are on the Way!
Hey there, San Antonio! If you’re feeling a bit of that summer warmth, hold on tight because the weather is about to take a turn. A cold front is gearing up to move through our area on Monday evening, potentially bringing some strong and severe thunderstorms. Don’t let your guard down just yet, especially as we dive into our second severe weather season!
What’s Happening?
As we approach Monday, the temperatures are peaking in the upper 80s during the afternoon. That means it’s hot, sticky, and perfect conditions for thunderstorms to pop up. As the cold front sweeps in, you can expect a broken line of storms developing, particularly east of Interstate 35. Perfect timing for that evening commute, right?
Storm Expectations
Now, while it seems that widespread severe weather isn’t on the forecast for San Antonio, we should still be pretty alert. An isolated strong storm could crop up, especially as you’re making your way back home after a long day. The Storm Prediction Center has rated our area at a level 1 on a 1-to-5 scale for severe weather, which means we should remain cautious, but it’s not entirely panic mode just yet.
Areas north of us, especially around Austin, see a bump up into a level 2 risk. This extends all the way to the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, where folks need to watch for some serious weather, including potential tornadoes. So, while San Antonio is getting off easy, our friends up north might need to take cover!

As it stands, the biggest threats we’re facing here are damaging winds and maybe a bit of large hail. It’s going to be crucial to keep an eye on the skies as the day progresses. Early morning could see some scattered showers, mostly above and near Interstate 10, but these shouldn’t cause much disruption.
Since this front is part of what Texas experiences seasonally, it’s important to remember that this time of year often brings volatile weather. Past data shows that November can yield an average of seven tornadoes across the state, making it second only to June for severe weather activity. So, while many of us were hoping for a smooth Monday, it’s going to be another day to keep your weather app handy!
Relief on the Horizon
After the storms wrap up on Monday evening, you can look forward to a refreshing change on Tuesday. A much drier air mass will sweep in just in time for Election Day. Although temperatures are still expected to remain slightly warmer than normal, we’ll get a break from that pesky humidity. Expect sunny skies and temps dipping back into the comfy 70s. Who doesn’t love that?
