In a tragic mishap, a man making his way to a local apartment complex’s dumpster lost his footing and inadvertently discharged the gun he was carrying, taking his own life, San Antonio police reported.

Details Around The Incident

Law enforcement was summoned to the 12400 block of Starcrest Drive, close to Jones Maltsberger Road, in the early hours of the morning upon receiving reports of an injured person. According to police information, a man – presumed to be in his 50s or 60s – was taking out his trash while simultaneously holding a firearm.

The man reportedly slipped on a wet surface, resulting in the fatal discharge of his gun. The bullet struck his chest, inflicting severe injuries that later led to his death at a nearby hospital.

The Aftermath

Despite the tragic shot, the man continued his descent towards the dumpster until collapsing from his injuries. Paramedics promptly rushed him to a neighboring hospital where medical staff did their best to save him. Ultimately, however, his injuries proved fatal.

Gun Found Near Trash Bags

Upon investigation, law enforcement found the man’s firearm lying close to the trash bags. Both the San Antonio Police Department and the San Antonio Fire Department, along with EMS, attended the scene promptly in response to the situation.

The deceased man’s identity has not been released yet pending notification of next of kin. Further details are likely to follow as the investigation progresses.
