Sponsor Our ArticlesSouth Texas is bracing for a significant drop in temperatures this week as the first cold front has arrived. Cooler temperatures below seasonal averages are expected on Sunday, leading to a much stronger Arctic front by Tuesday night that could bring the coldest temperatures of the season. Wind chills may drop into the single digits, prompting residents to prepare for a hard freeze midweek and potentially wintry precipitation. Stay warm and keep checking for updates as this rollercoaster of temperatures unfolds.
Get ready, South Texas! The weather is about to take a pretty chilly turn. The first cold front of the week rolled in late Saturday night, ushering in some cooler temperatures for Sunday that are slightly below what we usually expect this time of year. If you’ve noticed it feels a bit brisk out there, you’re not alone!
Hold onto your hats because a more robust arctic cold front is expected to arrive on Tuesday night. Predictions indicate this will bring some of the coldest temperatures of the season, definitely something to keep an eye on. Temperatures in San Antonio could see wind chills drop into the single digits, so it might be time to pull out those warm coats and mittens!
So, how are we kicking off the week? For starters, Sunday is going to have a chilly start, with morning temperatures dipping to the upper 30s, heading close to 40 degrees. Don’t forget the wind, because those projected speeds of around 15 mph will make it feel even cooler, dropping the wind chill values down to about 30 degrees. Brrr!
But don’t worry, it’s not all gloom and doom. Expect a bit of sunshine too! As the day progresses, temperatures are set to rise to around 50 degrees by noon and peak in the mid-50s by the afternoon. Still, that’s rather chilly—almost 10 degrees below average for mid-February.
As we slide into the evening, temperatures will start to drop back into the 40s after 7 p.m. and will fall into the 30s overnight. If you’re out and about, make sure to bundle up!
Fast forward to Tuesday. The chill will be creeping in throughout the day, with San Antonio’s temperatures peaking in the upper 60s to low 70s in the afternoon. Enjoy it while you can! Once that cold front passes on Tuesday night, we’ll see a steep drop in temperatures. Expect to see those numbers plummet into the 40s by 10 p.m. and down into the 30s after midnight. It’s going to feel like winter has finally taken its grip!
Come Wednesday morning, get ready for a rude awakening. Temperatures are projected to hit the upper 20s to low 30s, with wind chills plunging into the teens in San Antonio and dipping down to the single digits in some of our Hill Country towns. Make sure your pets are warm and that those potted plants are brought inside!
The wind isn’t just going to be cold; it’s going to be strong, too, with speeds around 15 to 25 mph. This may lead to dangerously chilly conditions, especially in North Texas, where wind chills may go below zero. If you thought it was cold before, just wait until midweek!
There’s a tiny chance—about 10 to 20%—of some wintry precipitation on Tuesday as the front pushes through. Most likely, it could be a few pockets of light freezing rain or sleet in North and Northeast Texas, but significant accumulations aren’t expected.
Don’t let your guard down! Thursday morning could see some of the lowest temperatures we’ve had this week, dropping to near 20 degrees in San Antonio and possibly even lower in Hill Country areas. With wind chills hovering in the single digits and low teens, it’s definitely time to prepare for a hard freeze.
This week will be a rollercoaster of temperatures, so make sure you’re checking in on updates frequently! The fluctuating weather might bring some surprises, and we’ll need to stay prepared through it all. Stay warm, South Texas!
