In a heartbreaking turn of events, a man was detained on suspicion of intoxication manslaughter in relation to a fatal crash on the Southwest Side. This incident further underscores the perilous consequences of driving under the influence, igniting renewed calls for stricter enforcement of road safety regulations.
According to local authorities, the crash transpired on Southwest Loop 410, near New Valley Hi Drive. Reports indicate that the horrific incident unfolded around 6:45 p.m. on Friday, turning a bustling section of the freeway into a chilling crime scene.
The victim, a 40-year-old woman, had pulled over onto the right shoulder after running out of fuel and was exiting her vehicle when she was tragically struck by a Toyota Tundra. The driver at fault remained at the scene, where first responders and law enforcement officers soon arrived.
The suspected driver at fault has been identified as Juan Rabago. After a preliminary on-scene intoxication assessment was completed, evidence pointed toward Rabago’s impaired mental state at the time of the crash.
In light of these findings, the authorities promptly arrested Rabago. He is currently booked into the Bexar County Adult Detention Center on charges of intoxication manslaughter.
The emergency medical team pronounced the victim dead at the scene. The complete identification of the victim along with the cause of death will be officially confirmed and released by the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office in due course.
