San Antonio, we’ve got some stormy weather shaking things up! Early this morning, residents woke up to a world turned upside down as lightning flashed and thunder rolled through the skies. It was quite the spectacle, but not everyone was celebrating. With the storms rolling through, many locals found themselves dealing with some frustrating power outages.
According to reports from CPS Energy, over 1,400 customers found themselves in the dark as of 7 a.m. Thankfully, that number has been significantly reduced, and now only around 700 customers are still without power. The electric company worked tirelessly all night long, scrambling to restore electricity after storms wreaked havoc across the area.
“We’re working hard to get everyone back online as soon as possible,” announced CPS Energy on social media. They confirmed there are around 36 weather-related outages that their dedicated teams are currently resolving. The areas hit the hardest include the 78225 and 78211 zip codes, where crews are focusing their efforts right now.
The storm didn’t just knock out power; it also prompted multiple advisories from the National Weather Service. Late last night, starting around 10 p.m., severe thunderstorms rolled through San Antonio, bringing with them flash flood warnings and severe thunderstorm warnings. Those gray clouds seemed to want to test our mettle for sure!
While the visuals of the storms might have been awe-inspiring, residents were urged to stay safe. CPS Energy has emphasized caution when it comes to downed power lines. “If you see any power lines on the ground, do not try to move them or drive over them. Instead, report them immediately at 210-353-4357,” they advised.
For those curious about how long they might be in the dark, CPS Energy has rolled out an outage map that offers updates on the areas impacted by power outages. If you’re noticing flickering lights or a complete loss of power, you can report outages on their website at cpsenergy.com.
And while it might be tough dealing with the interruptions right now, CPS Energy shared their appreciation for the patience shown by residents. “We apologize for the inconvenience and want to thank everyone for sticking with us as our crews work around the clock to restore power safely.”
Looking ahead, this storm serves as a reminder for residents to stay prepared for any future weather challenges. It’s always wise to have a flashlight and some non-perishable snacks handy, just in case the storms come crashing in again.
So, if you’re among the lucky ones who either didn’t lose power or managed to get it restored, consider this a nudge to check in on your neighbors, especially those who might still be waiting for their electricity to come back on. During these stormy times, a little extra care and community spirit can go a long way!
As San Antonio embraces a new day, let’s keep our fingers crossed for clear skies ahead. Here’s hoping the rest of the week is calm and power outages are just a memory danced away with the rain!
