Sunny Days Ahead for San Antonio!
Hey San Antonio! It looks like we’re in for another gorgeous day ahead, with some pretty warm temperatures making a comeback. After last week’s delightful taste of fall, which had many of us swapping out shorts for sweaters, we’re now gearing up to embrace a blast of summer-like warmth once again!
Breaking the Record
This morning, we kicked things off with comfy temperatures around 65 to 67 degrees. So, if you’re stepping out early, it might feel a bit cool, especially with the mostly cloudy skies and a chance of some patchy dense fog lurking around. If you’re driving this morning, especially in southern Bexar County, keep your eyes peeled for visibility issues, as it could drop to less than a quarter mile in some spots.
Now, let’s talk about what to expect later. San Antonio is likely to reach around 80 degrees just after 11 a.m. Isn’t that great? But it gets even better! By the time we hit the afternoon, around 3 to 4 p.m., we’ll probably see temperatures soar to around 90 to 91 degrees. Not far from the daily record of 93 degrees!
Texas Heatwave
So, what’s causing this sudden return to heat? A high pressure system has settled over Texas, bringing with it some intense warmth that is quite unusual for late October. While many areas experienced delightful weather last week, including temps dipping into the 30s up north, it seems like that fleeting coolness is quickly fading away.
In fact, folks up in Dallas are gearing up for a high of 92 degrees, which would break their daily record of 90 degrees set back in 1925. Over in Waco, they’re also expected to hit 91 degrees and break their own record of 89 degrees. Pretty evident that this warm spell is affecting the entire state!
Looking Ahead
Should we buckle up for more warm days? You bet! Similar temperatures are anticipated across most of Texas on Thursday, with San Antonio reaching around 89 degrees under those partly cloudy skies. And it doesn’t look like the hot weather is going anywhere anytime soon.
Now, a cold front is on the move, expected to make its way through the Texas Panhandle on Friday, which will usher in cooler temperatures for the northern and western parts of Texas. But don’t expect it to cool us off here in South Texas just yet—the front is likely to stall before reaching our sunny side.
A Dry Streak Continues
And here’s another thing to note: besides the warmer temperatures, we’re still in a pretty significant dry spell. As of Tuesday, it has been 47 days without measurable rain in San Antonio! This dry streak is now the 10th longest in the city’s recorded history and typically, such a long stretch of dry weather only happens once every 14 years.
We’re on track to hit a whopping 50 days without rain by the weekend! That’s quite a streak, although it can’t be easy for our thirsty plants and gardeners. The record for the longest rainless streak in San Antonio is still standing at 63 days, which happened back in the summer of 1993.
