Teen Suspect Points Gun at Young Girl, Leads Police on Chase: Authorities

An 18-year-old teenager was taken into custody after allegedly pointing a gun at a 16-year-old girl and leading police on a chase through a neighborhood located on the city’s Northwest Side, law enforcement officials reported on Monday.
Standoff Instigated by Domestic Dispute
The incident began around 5:30 p.m. local time Sunday in an apartment complex located off Bridlewood Lane, where police responded to a disturbance involving a firearm. Officers arrived at the scene with long rifles drawn, prepared for a possible standoff scenario.
The suspect, now identified as 18-year-old Jeremiah Day, and the targeted 16-year-old girl had initially been arguing within an apartment unit. The argument then spilled into the parking lot of the complex where found witnesses reported Day pointing a firearm at the girl from inside a vehicle. Day then fled the scene, which sparked a short pursuit by law enforcement officers.
Suspect Arrest in Nearby Hotel
Day was later discovered by officers seeking refuge under the stairs of a nearby hotel. Following a brief chase and suspected assault with a firearm, Day was successfully detained by law enforcement without further incident or harm to the public.
Authorities have subsequently charged the 18-year-old with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and evading arrest, two serious crimes that will be thoroughly investigated.
The 16-year-old girl, who was subject to this terrifying ordeal, is reported to be physically unharmed. The relationship between the suspect and the girl is unknown at this time.
