A highly-regarded Tejano band, Grupo Siggno, based in San Antonio, Texas, has faced a shocking theft incident which resulted in the loss of their equipment and merchandise amounting to almost $200,000. The band’s leader, Jesse Turner, shared this disheartening news via a Facebook live on Monday, September 23, 2024.
Turner was visibly upset while revealing that all their equipment which include lighting, sound system equipment, speakers, and a solid amount of merchandise had been swept away by the criminals. The storage location was chosen to store all of the band’s gear after their last performance in Premont, located about two hours south of San Antonio on Sunday, September 22.
Shaken by the surprising event, Turner revealed that he has already filed a report with the San Antonio Police Department. The police department has confirmed that the investigation is ongoing. They revealed that the band’s equipment was found to be missing from San Antonio’s Southeast Side, off City Base Landing. Later, the empty U-Haul, previously housing the expensive equipment and merchandise, was discovered in a dumped state.
Turner, appealing for any possible leads, urged their fans and surrounding community to reach out if they notice someone attempting to sell anything that resembles their unique equipment or if they see boxes of merchandise anywhere around San Antonio. The stolen merchandise alone has been estimated to be worth around $14,000. Along with the equipment, the total loss after the theft is believed to be over $200,000.
Shattered by the loss, the band is still optimistic and determined to return stronger. A passionate Turner vowed that the theft was merely a bad chapter in their journey. “People can steal my equipment. People can steal my lighting. People can steal my screens but people cannot steal my drive,” Turner stated resolutely. He added, “People cannot steal me from doing what I love to do”.
The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office has joined the San Antonio Police in their endeavor to solve this case. After reaching out, Turner is yet to speak more on the incident. This incident is an alarming reminder of the risk that artists and organizations face while storing their equipment in off-site locations. As the police continue their investigation, the Tejano music community and fans of Grupo Siggno are hoping for a speedy resolution to this unfortunate event.
