This aspect of the project faced scrutiny, particularly from Alamo Colleges District, which expressed concern regarding potential smoke emissions from the BBQ restaurant impacting local air quality. However, representatives from Terry Black’s BBQ assured council members that they will install a smoke scrubber if any air quality complaints arise.

District 2 Councilman Jalen McKee-Rodriguez has been a vocal supporter of the development. He emphasized that the presence of a nearby hotel would ensure that the restaurant is motivated to address any smoke issues, thus protecting the neighborhood’s air quality. Construction scheduling and specific design details about the hotel remain under wraps, as plans were submitted late last year for a three-story hotel – a height permitted by the recent zoning changes.
