San Antonio is about to get a delicious addition to its dining scene! Terry Black’s Barbecue, a beloved eatery known for its mouthwatering smoked meats and savory sides, has received the green light to open a new location on Broadway.
As reported in September, the Historic and Design Review Commission of San Antonio approved the project, paving the way for construction to begin. According to a recent filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR), we can expect groundbreaking to start in May 2025. That’s right—before we know it, the sound of construction will be ringing in the area as they prepare to serve up some of the best barbecue this side of Texas!
The projected completion date for the restaurant is around May 2026. So, while we can hardly contain our excitement, it looks like we’ll have to pencil a visit to Terry Black’s into our calendars for next year. The estimated cost for this delicious endeavor is around $6 million, which shows just how committed they are to bringing a top-notch experience to the community.
But wait, there’s more! A second filing indicates that a parking garage is also in the works, positioned right next door at 2102 Broadway. Construction for this garage is slated to kick off a little earlier, on January 15, 2025. This structure will cost around $12 million to build and is expected to be completed by January 15, 2026. This addition will help ease parking woes for all those eager to savor the mouthwatering flavors of Terry Black’s.
For those not familiar, Terry Black’s Barbecue is a family-owned operation with locations in Austin, Dallas, Lockhart, and Waco. They’ve earned a loyal following thanks to their expertly smoked brisket, ribs, sausages, and charismatic atmosphere. The restaurant prides itself on using high-quality ingredients and traditional cooking methods, allowing flavors to shine through in every bite.
Once the San Antonio location opens, patrons can look forward to a menu brimming with these crowd-favorite items, alongside a warm and welcoming dining experience. The addition of an outdoor space is also expected, which will make it a perfect spot to soak in the vibrant Texas sun while enjoying some scrumptious barbecue.
While the wait may feel long for these tasty treats to become available, the anticipation is half the fun! In the meantime, locals looking to satisfy their barbecue cravings can still visit the existing locations in Austin, Dallas, Lockhart, and Waco. Trust us, the journey will be worth it if you can’t wait to get your hands on a plate of Terry Black’s famous brisket or sides topped with their unique sauces.
Do keep in mind that, as with any major construction project, details may change. However, everything seems to be moving smoothly for Terry Black’s Barbecue’s much-anticipated entry into San Antonio. We’re excited about the wonderful flavors that are on their way, and we can’t wait to learn more as the timeline unfolds.
Stay tuned for updates and get ready for a barbecue experience that we’re sure will be worth the wait! Until then, happy eating, San Antonio!
