Hey there, Schertz residents! We have some delicious news that’s sure to make your taste buds tingle. If you’ve ever dreamed of indulging in some mouth-watering barbecue without having to drive far, this is your lucky day! H-E-B is bringing one of its popular True Texas BBQ restaurants to the H-E-B Plus store located at 17460 Interstate 35. That’s right – prepare yourself for some serious barbecue goodness!
According to official filings, this new True Texas BBQ joint will be a spacious 6,785-square-foot establishment. Construction is slated to kick off in November, with a completion target set for March. The total investment for this incredible BBQ addition comes in at $1.4 million, which clearly shows H-E-B’s commitment to serving up the best barbecue experience possible. Isn’t that exciting?
For those who may not know, H-E-B introduced the True Texas BBQ brand back in 2014, starting with a restaurant in Pleasanton. Over the past decade, this tasty brand has really taken off, with a whopping 33 more locations added since that first one opened its doors. This expansion really shows how much the people of Texas love their barbecue!
In the greater San Antonio area alone, there are currently eight True Texas BBQ restaurants, not including the Pleasanton location. They can be found all over the place—ranging from the bustling North Side of San Antonio to the cozy communities of Seguin and New Braunfels. Clearly, the barbecue craze is alive and well!
In a notable move, Texas Monthly recognized True Texas BBQ as the best barbecue chain in the state back in 2019. That’s quite an honor! Randy Evans, the director of culinary development for restaurants and food service at H-E-B, expressed that while they are proud of the accolade, their main goal is to elevate their offerings even further. “Texas Monthly named us the best chain, but our goal is to be the best barbecue restaurant,” Evans stated in a 2022 interview.
H-E-B isn’t just about groceries; they are passionate about creating a truly delicious dining experience. They’ve done extensive research throughout the state, tasting dishes at many locations that made the coveted Top 50 list, all in an effort to compete with the finest BBQ establishments.
Kristin Irvin, the senior director of restaurants at H-E-B, shared some insights on the True Texas BBQ brand, stating, “This brand has been by far the most successful.” She emphasized the importance of making fantastic barbecue accessible to all Texans, remarking, “Every town in Texas can’t be a Lockhart.” Now, that’s a sentiment everyone can rally behind!
Although H-E-B hasn’t spilled all the beans about what the Schertz location will specifically offer, you can bet it will be a BBQ lover’s dream come true. The excitement surrounding the new eatery is palpable, and as the construction progresses, we’ll all be eagerly awaiting the chance to dig into some incredible smoked meats and other barbecue delights!
With the addition of a True Texas BBQ restaurant, Schertz residents can look forward to a deliciously fun dining experience right in their own backyard. So, mark your calendars for March, gather your friends and family, and get ready to feast on the kind of BBQ that’ll have you coming back for more. Happy eating, Schertz!
