Welcome to another sunny day in San Antonio! It’s hard to believe we’re already in the middle of October, isn’t it? This time of year usually brings thoughts of cozy sweaters, warm pumpkin spice lattes, and perfect weather for fall activities. But here in the Lone Star State, we seem to have missed the memo. Instead of cool breezes, we’re looking at some sizzling temperatures that would feel more at home in July!
As we head into Sunday, most parts of Texas can expect high temperatures to soar into the mid- to upper 90s. That’s right! Some of us might even reach the magic three-digit mark. In fact, if you’re near the DFW Metroplex, cities like Corsicana, Waco, and Mineral Wells could see temperatures land anywhere from 97 to a sweltering 101 degrees. Yikes! If the DFW airport does hit the 100-degree mark, it’ll break the record for the latest 100-degree day ever recorded there. Currently, the record is sitting at October 3, 1951—so let’s keep our fingers crossed that we break this old record!
Thankfully, mornings are starting off on the cooler side. Here in San Antonio, lows are expected to drop into the cozy mid-60s. If you’re heading out early to grab a cup of coffee, enjoy those cooler temperatures while they last! In the nearby Hill Country, folks in Kerrville and Fredericksburg may even awaken to temperatures in the low 60s. Central and North Texas are also looking at mild mornings, with lows hovering around the upper 60s. But get ready for a quick warm-up! With dry air and sunny skies dominating the day, temperatures will rise dramatically after sunrise.
If you’re thinking the heat will let up soon, there’s a mixed bag headed our way. Monday is expected to bring a weak cold front to North Texas, which should ease temperatures down a notch or two. However, it looks like San Antonio won’t see much of a difference; we’re in for another hot day with highs settling into the mid-90s. As we venture further into the week, Tuesday may bring us slightly cooler conditions, but expect those highs to still hover in the low to mid-90s.
By Wednesday, the high pressure dominating our region will begin to break down. While it won’t feel chilly, you’ll likely notice a slight respite from the intense heat. San Antonio could see highs in the upper 80s, bringing a bit of relief. Then, as we slide into Thursday and Friday, temperatures are expected to creep down even further, reaching the low to mid-80s. We might also welcome some atmospheric moisture, leading to partly cloudy skies and a faint chance of rain. But don’t get too excited—no major thunderstorms or heavy rain is on the horizon.
So, while we’re amid *sweater weather* season everywhere else in the country, Texan residents should brace themselves for a few *more hot days*. At this rate, we might have to reconsider our fall wardrobe choices! Keep hydrated and remember to take care of yourself if you plan to be outdoors. We’re in for quite a ride, Texas!
