The Tobin Center for the Performing Arts has unveiled an exciting lineup for their 2024-25 Frost Signature Series. The upcoming season will feature six Broadway musicals that have collectively won a total of 20 Tony Awards and 15 Drama Desk Awards. All productions will be staged at the well-known H-E-B Performance Hall and are set to run over one or two performances.
Commencing the series in June is “Shrek the Musical”. This vibrant adaptation of the family-friendly animated movie, now a classic since its first production in 2008, brings to life the endearing characters of Shrek, Donkey, and Princess Fiona, favorites across generations.
Coming in September is the much-anticipated “Dear Evan Hansen”. Hailed as a compelling coming-of-age musical that originated in D.C., the show has received major acclaim and is currently on its second national tour. Subsequently, it has branched out into other mediums, with adaptations into a book and a feature film.
For those who have an affinity for soul and R&B, “Ain’t Too Proud: The Life and Times of the Temptations” tells the story of the Motown group’s high points and struggles, while “R.E.S.P.E.C.T.” highlights the remarkable career of music legend Aretha Franklin.
The Tobin Center is also pleased to revive the second season of Curtain Talks and Cocktails. This insightful Broadway-focused lecture series will be hosted by Trinity University professor Nathan Stith. The series will cover numerous enriching topics such as the musicals of Disney, Sondheim, Bob Fosse, and Kander & Ebb, and will culminate with a thorough analysis of “West Side Story”.
