San Antonio is coming together as a grieving family seeks support following the tragic shooting of a young father in his own home. The incident which took place at the Villas of Oak Creste Apartments on Fredericksburg Road in the early hours of October 26 has left loved ones in shock and mourning.
It was just after 4 a.m. when police responded to a call about a shooting, with the caller reporting that several stray bullets had struck their apartment wall. Upon investigating the unit next door, officers found 20-year-old Isaiah Guevara unresponsive, having succumbed to a gunshot wound.
Isaiah’s aunt, Christina Rodriguez, expressed the family’s confusion and heartbreak over the shocking loss. “Someone went into his apartment and killed him,” she said. “That’s all we know, and we don’t understand why they would do that to him.” Isaiah had recently celebrated his birthday on September 17, turning just 20 years old. “We were like, ‘Oh, you made it to your 20s!’ His life was cut short,” Christina shared.
Though his life was brief, those who knew Isaiah describe him as a vibrant and caring individual. “He was such an innocent soul,” noted his cousin, Angel Rodriguez. “He was so happy and all about family. He was always willing to help and was the first one there in your time of need. I am numb to the fact that someone would do this to him.”
Isaiah leaves behind two young daughters who are now faced with the unimaginable reality of growing up without their father. As Christina put it, “Now they don’t have a dad. We are broken.” The impact of this tragedy is felt deeply across the family, and they fear that the perpetrator remains a threat to others. “If they can do this to him, they can do it to someone else,” Christina remarked. She urged any potential witnesses to step forward, despite their fears. “I know some are scared – it’s scary, I get it – but this is an innocent life that was taken.”
Angel echoed her sentiments, expressing her determination to find closure and answers. “I won’t have peace,” she said. “I am going to fight, my family is going to fight, until we get justice.” As they navigate their grief, the family is also faced with the pressing concern of keeping Isaiah’s memory alive. They hope that, through community support, they can find the strength to honor him in the best possible way.
At this moment, the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) has not released any information regarding a suspect in the case. They have indicated that there were surveillance cameras installed at the apartment building, but it remains unclear if they captured any footage that might help in identifying the shooter.
In the meantime, a GoFundMe page has been established to assist the family with funeral expenses for Isaiah. The outpouring of support from the community has been heartwarming, as many are stepping up to help the family get through this incredibly difficult time. Anyone wishing to contribute can search for the page dedicated to helping lay Isaiah to rest.
As this tragedy unfolds, the San Antonio community stands united in remembering a young life taken too soon and vows to support his family through their toughest times ahead.
