San Antonio has been rocked by a heartbreaking incident that has left a young woman grappling with unimaginable pain. Virginia Fuentes-Gonzalez found herself thrust into a nightmare lately when she witnessed the shocking murder of her father, Christopher Fuentes, in the parking lot of a local Taco Palenque. The suspect behind this devastating act? Her boyfriend of three years, Franco Summers.
The tragic shooting occurred early Saturday morning, just before 12:30 a.m., at the Taco Palenque located off Blanco Road near Loop 1604. Virginia described the gut-wrenching moment she saw her father shot, stating, “Franco looked me in my eyes and then shot my father, and I keep seeing my father’s face once he realized he was shot.” The emotional toll on Virginia has been severe; she explained that she is “constantly replaying images in my head at night” and struggles to sleep.
According to information revealed in the arrest affidavit, the events leading to the shooting began when Christopher, who had just been released from prison and was staying with Virginia and Summers, suggested a night out after some drinks. However, things quickly escalated when the trio attempted to enter a bar but refused to pay a cover charge.
The affidavit recounts how Summers became increasingly irate, threatening Virginia and Christopher by exclaiming, “I’m strapped, don’t play with me, you already know how I am.” It was clear that the atmosphere was becoming tense, but no one could have predicted the horrifying turn of events that would soon follow.
As they arrived in the Taco Palenque parking lot, tensions flared even higher. Surveillance footage reportedly shows Christopher walking towards the car that Summers was in, reaching through the window to grab his arm. The situation went from intense to tragic in an instant—Summers allegedly fired multiple shots at Christopher, ultimately killing him before speeding away from the scene.
Virginia, who had been a witness to this horror, described hiding in the kitchen of Taco Palenque while she called 911 for help. In the midst of chaos, she identified Summers as the shooter through a photograph shown to her by the police. The following day, San Antonio police responded to a separate incident involving a “family disturbance with a gun” and discovered that Summers was not only involved in that incident but was also the murder suspect that they had been seeking.
Summers surrendered to the police and is now facing several serious charges, including murder, evading arrest, and assault. For Virginia, this gave her a sense of relief, and she expressed, “I felt like we’re one step closer to getting justice for my father.” However, the heartache remains palpable.
In the aftermath of this tragedy, Virginia is left with nothing but memories of her father and the indescribable sorrow of his loss. “My father was my best friend. I’m going to miss his hugs. I’m going to miss laughing with him. I’m going to miss all the memories we created,” she mournfully shared.
In a show of support, the family has set up a GoFundMe page to help with burial expenses as they navigate this difficult time.
This tragic tale serves as a somber reminder of how quickly life can change and how the impact of violence can ripple through families and communities. As authorities continue to investigate, one thing remains true: Virginia Fuentes-Gonzalez has lost more than just a father; she has lost a piece of her heart.
