San Antonio, TX – Hiring Our Heroes (HOH), the nation’s leading nonprofit helping veterans, military spouses, and transitioning service members find meaningful careers, will host a series of events providing professional development and networking opportunities for military spouses on January 15 & 16, 2024. Military spouse unemployment and underemployment are long-standing concerns. The military spouse unemployment rate is five times higher than the national average. Contributing factors include frequent relocations, increased family responsibilities when a partner is deployed, and limited employment options near military bases.
Amplify, a professional development and career preparation workshop, will be held at the Gateway Club at Lackland Air Force Base on January 15 and 16. A Military Spouse Hiring Event will be held at the same location on the afternoon of January 16. Attendees will focus on career-related topics such as public speaking, salary negotiations, networking skills, and interview techniques. Attendees will meet with local and national employers dedicated to building sustainable careers for military spouses. There will also be an opportunity to have complimentary headshots taken by a professional photographer. “Currently, the military spouse community is facing a high percentage of unemployment and underemployment. That economic instability is causing a ripple effect in the recruitment and retention of our all-volunteer military force. It is imperative we build pathways to sustainable employment for the military spouse community and look to this community as a workforce solution,” said Melissa Sanderson, Senior Director, Hiring Our Heroes Military Spouse Program.
