As the month of May rolls on, the city of San Antonio is gearing up for a momentous occasion as hundreds of students from The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UT Health San Antonio) are set to graduate this Saturday. The spring commencement ceremony will see more than 1,100 students from various health-related fields walk the stage, marking the beginning of a new chapter in their professional lives.
The spring commencement will be a multi-school affair, with graduates from the Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine, Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, School of Nursing, School of Dentistry, and School of Health Professions all coming together to celebrate their hard-earned achievements. This year’s commencement speaker, John M. Zerwas, MD, executive vice chancellor for health affairs with the University of Texas System, will address the graduates and offer words of inspiration as they embark on their respective career paths.
Among the graduates are two students from the MD/MS in AI dual degree program, the first of its kind in the nation. Launched in fall 2023, this unique program combines a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from UT Health San Antonio with a Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence (MSAI) from The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). These pioneering graduates will be at the forefront of the intersection between medicine and AI, shaping the future of healthcare with their innovative approach.
The graduating class is a diverse group, with candidates for various degrees including Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS), Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD), Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT), Master of Science in Speech Language Pathology, Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in several disciplines, Master of Science in Respiratory Care, and Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene. These students represent the next generation of healthcare professionals poised to make a difference in their respective fields.
