The former executive director of the Office of Technology Management and Advancement at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) is known for his prowess in transitioning research results into marketable opportunities.
During his tenure at UCSF, Francis significantly evolved the university’s approach to commercialization and partnerships. Under his careful guidance, this underwent a transformation into a “market first” process. This resulted in substantial increases in equity and license revenue. Remarkably, UCSF achieved record-breaking income and activity levels year after year.
Francis’ primary role at UT Health San Antonio will consist of nurturing entrepreneurialism and innovation. He will be working on multiple complex projects spanning various technical areas within the university. Francis established and later sold the consulting company TCG Pty Ltd to Deloitte. He has also received national awards for his contributions in commercialization training. A recipient of national entrepreneurial educator awards, Francis has also penned the ImPact commercialization system.
