Traffic Alert: Loop 1604 Weekend Closures in San Antonio Due to Bridge Demolition

Traffic Alert for San Antonio: Weekend Closures Posted for Loop 1604

Hey there, San Antonio! As we zoom into the weekend, we’ve got some important news that could affect your travel plans. If you’re planning on hitting the road, you might want to consider alternative routes, especially if you’re heading towards the North Side.

What’s Happening?

Starting at 9 p.m. on Friday, November 8, and running through to 5 a.m. on Monday, November 11, the main lanes of Loop 1604 both eastbound and westbound will be closed at Blanco Road. That’s right, it’s a complete shutdown!

This closure is all part of the demolition of the original Blanco Road bridge that runs over Loop 1604. Don’t worry too much, though—the new bridge was opened to traffic just last weekend, so it’s all part of the upgrade process. Once the demolition is finished, you can continue using the brand-new bridge to zip through the Loop 1604 intersection.

Don’t Get Stuck: Detours in Place

To keep the wheels turning smoothly during these closures, TXDOT has laid out some detour routes for drivers. Here’s what you need to know:

  • For Loop 1604 Eastbound and Westbound: If you’re on the main lanes, you’ll need to exit via the Blanco Road exit ramp, making your way onto the frontage road lanes. After that, you can re-enter the main lanes via the Blanco Road entrance ramp.
  • For Blanco Road Northbound: If you’re heading north on Blanco Road, you’ll switch to the Loop 1604 EB frontage road and take the turnaround at Stone Oak Parkway. From there, continue on the Loop 1604 WB frontage road back towards Blanco Road NB.
  • For Blanco Road Southbound: Southbound travelers on Blanco Road will need to hop onto the Loop 1604 WB frontage road and turn around at Huebner Road. After reaching this point, continue on the Loop 1604 EB frontage road back to Blanco Road SB.

Access to Businesses & Law Enforcement Support

It’s important to note that access to local businesses near the construction site will remain open throughout the entire weekend. So, if you have any shopping or dining plans, you’re in luck!

Additionally, local law enforcement officers will be on-site to help manage traffic flow at key intersections, ensuring you can still navigate your way around without too much hassle.

Fingers Crossed for Early Reopening

One more thing: although the closures are set as mentioned, there’s a chance that the work may finish up sooner than anticipated. If the job gets done ahead of schedule and the roads are deemed safe for drivers, TXDOT will open everything back up early!

So there you have it, folks! Plan ahead, be aware of the detours, and safe travels this weekend. We’ll keep you updated if there are any changes, so stay tuned and drive safely, San Antonio!
