In a shocking event during an alleged theft in San Antonio, a couple from Houston found themselves at the unfavorable end of a misdeed. Their custom wheelchair, valued at $5000, was stolen while they were out on their vacation.
The incident took place when Hunter Koska, one half of the couple, momentarily left the custom wheelchair by their truck. In order to assist his fiancée, he had set the wheelchair next to the vehicle while focusing on getting his fiancée into the car and managing her medicine.
“I had set it right next to the truck, and usually, right in the back of the truck, but I was trying to get her in the car, get the AC rolling, give her her medicine, and it was one of those moments where I forgot it for a split second. By the time I came back around, it was gone,” Hunter recounted, his voice filled with angst and disbelief.
Frantic in their attempts to retrieve what Hunter terms as his fiancée’s ‘legs’, the couple has filed a police report with the San Antonio Police Department. They have taken to social media to track down the culprits, scouring the Facebook Marketplace and various other community pages in hopes of finding their precious belonging. The couple has also checked local pawnshops, recognising that the wheelchair could potentially be pawned off for cash.
“I don’t understand who takes somebody’s mobility. It’s her freedom, her legs. I don’t know how to do anything without it,” said a distressed Koska.
The San Antonio community has been called upon to provide any helpful information in this matter. As part of their efforts, anyone having knowledge about this disheartening incident involving the theft of the wheelchair, can get in touch with the San Antonio Police Department.
