An Up-Close Look at Space Exploration at the Witte Museum’s New Exhibit

In San Antonio, the Witte Museum is inviting guests for an up-close and personal journey into outer space this spring with its new exhibit “Surviving Space: Astronauts and Asteroids.” The exhibit features authentic NASA artifacts and offers interactive experiences till September 2, 2024.

A Showcase of Astronaut Endeavors and Asteroids

The exhibits in “Surviving Space: Astronauts and Asteroids” aim to inspire budding astronauts with real-world artifacts and insights into the history of space exploration. One such artifact is the flight suit of Dr. Ellen Ochoa, the first Hispanic woman to travel to space.

In addition to its own collection, the museum has partnered with Space Center Houston to bring objects that were actually used in space missions. The items on display include examples of food, first aid kits, and toiletries that astronauts have taken into space.

A Collaboration with Space Research Institutes

The Witte Museum’s space exhibit features a collaborative showcase with the Southwest Research Institute, an organization intimately involved in space technology and equipment development. The exhibit includes 3D models of asteroids, created using the data collected from the Bennu asteroid.

An Interactive Journey

“Surviving Space: Astronauts and Asteroids” also features interactive stations where visitors are put to the test, working together to complete a mission. This feature adds a level of immersive learning to the exhibit, allowing visitors to experience first-hand the challenges faced by astronauts.

Guests are welcome to explore the new exhibit and embark on a thrilling journey of space exploration, till September 2, 2024. For all future astronauts, astronomy enthusiasts, and curious minds, this exhibit is a must-see.
