Woman Hospitalized, Suspect Arrested After Shooting Turns to Standoff
SAN ANTONIO – A tense standoff, originating from a reported shooting, was peacefully resolved in San Antonio’s East Side with a suspect in custody and a woman hospitalized on June 11, 2024.
East Side Apartment Complex turns Deadly
San Antonio’s far East Side was the scene of high drama after a shooting incident turned into a multi-hour standoff. Police investigators looking into the incident confirmed that a 19-year-old male suspect had been arrested in connection with the shooting.
The incident occurred near the intersection of Woodlake Parkway and I-10, at one of the apartment complexes in the area. Police were alerted to the situation after receiving multiple emergency calls from residents in the vicinity.
Victim in Stable Condition After Early Indications Point to a Non-Life-Threatening Injury
Emergency services, led by the San Antonio Police Department, swiftly arrived at the scene where they found a young woman suffering from a gunshot wound to her back. Despite her injury, the victim was able to provide a brief description of events leading to the shooting, indicating that she had been shot by the suspect in one of the neighboring apartment buildings.
Following a primary assessment by the paramedics on the scene, the gunshot wound was declared non-life-threatening. The victim was taken to the San Antonio Military Medical Center, where she is currently in stable condition, recovering from her injury.
Standoff Ended Peacefully After Continued Negotiations
The location of the suspect, as provided by the victim, triggered a long and tense standoff between the police negotiators and the suspect holed up in an apartment building. After extended negotiations, the suspected shooter was arrested without further incident.
